Events
Soma will be hosting a very special guest teacher again for this event!
Mary Knysh is the program director of “Music for People” (MFP) which has been a huge source of inspiration to me for decades. They have created a unique approach to music improvisation where everyone is welcome. MYP provides simple structures that allow people of all music levels (from virtuoso to total novice) to play together on any combination of instruments and make amazing improvised music.
Yes, really! It’s magical how Mary makes it work, and she does it so well.
What We’ll Explore Together
Over two inspiring days, we’ll step into music as a living, conversational language—one that invites curiosity, play, and deep connection.
Day 1 focuses on opening the door to spontaneity through non-judgmental sound play, deep listening, groove-building, and discovering your authentic musical voice within a supportive ensemble.
Day 2 expands into spontaneous composition, expressive soloing, ensemble interaction, and gentle facilitation tools you can bring back to your own classrooms, circles, or communities.
Throughout the weekend, you’ll be encouraged to take creative risks, explore new textures and tonalities, and reconnect with the joy that lives at the heart of music-making.
Who This Weekend Is For
This playshop is open to musicians of all levels, music educators, therapists, Music Together teachers, facilitators, community leaders—and anyone who feels curious about music as a pathway to joy, presence, and connection.
